SP-ARTE 2025

Galeria Frente, in its curation for SP-Arte 2025, proposes a journey through Brazilian art that highlights its diversity and aesthetic richness, spanning from modernism to contemporary art. The selection begins with key names of Brazilian modernism, such as Candido Portinari, Di Cavalcanti, and Djanira da Motta e Silva, whose works brought social, cultural, and folkloric issues to the center of artistic debate, shaping a visual identity for the country. Alfredo Volpi, with his iconic flags and facades, exemplifies the movement's evolution toward geometric abstraction, while Burle Marx expands the boundaries of art by integrating nature with architecture, creating landscapes that are true works of art. Fulvio Pennacchi, with his depictions of everyday life, also adds to the modernist diversity. In the second half of the 20th century, the gallery highlights artists who explored new aesthetic possibilities, such as Arcangelo Ianelli and Hércules Barsotti, exponents of geometric abstraction and concrete art, respectively. Mira Schendel, with her multifaceted production, Sérgio Camargo, with his sculptural reliefs, Tomie Ohtake, with her organic forms, and Willys de Castro, with his "Active Objects," demonstrate the richness and complexity of the artistic production of this period. Rubem Valentim, Eleonore Koch, and Walter Lewy round out this selection, each with their own unique language and contribution.

Naïve art, with its authenticity and spontaneity, also finds a place in the gallery, represented by artists such as José Antônio da Silva and Maria Auxiliadora da Silva, whose works portrayed everyday life and popular culture with vibrant colors and simple lines. Agostinho Batista de Freitas, Mestre Guarany, Raimundo de Oliveira, and Mirian Inês da Silva continue this tradition, each with their own unique style, celebrating the beauty of simplicity and the richness of Brazilian culture.

Finally, the gallery presents a panorama of contemporary Brazilian art, with artists who stand out for their innovative and engaged production. Anna Maria Maiolino, Antonio Dias, Beatriz Milhazes, Bordalo II, Jaider Esbell, José Leonilson, León Ferrari, Megumi Yuasa, Tunga, and Wesley Duke Lee are some of the names featured in this selection, demonstrating the vitality and diversity of Brazilian art today. By bringing together these artists, Galeria Frente fosters a dialogue between different generations and styles, offering the public a comprehensive and enriching vision of Brazilian art.
